If you follow me on Instagram (@girlmeetsstyle_) you would know that I spent last week in NYC at Lim College Summer Fashion Lab. I took two classes at the college (The Stylist Role and Project Fashion) and at night I explored the city with my new friends. Since we stayed on the Upper East Side we did most things that were in walking distance.
1. Sarabeth’s
Sarabeth’s is located on 92nd and Madison Ave. They have many locations through out the city but we went to the location only four blocks from our dorms. Let me start by saying the service was wonderful. The staff was super nice and always made sure we had what we needed. For dinner I had Braised Flat Iron Pot Roast, it was cooked to perfection. The meat was very tender and went perfectly with the carrots and potatoes. If you are going to go I recommend you make a reservation. I made a reservation for 7:30 and they were not busy at the time. However, more people were beginning to arrive later in the evening.
2. Laduree
Laduree is located on Madison Ave between 70th and 71st. I had never tried macarons before but I knew I had to try them out when I was in NYC. I bought six for $16. However, if you buy the six piece box set then it is $21 (which I totally wish I would have done). I tried the flavors Chocolate, Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Marie Antoinette, Raspberry, and Lemon. I recommend the Chocolate and Raspberry. The filling in the Chocolate is creme and the Raspberry is more like jelly. Laduree is a must visit when in New York.
3. The Reservoir in Central Park
If you’re looking for a great view of the skyline then the Reservoir is a great place to go. The Reservoir runs from 85th to 96th street on both the east and west side. If you are looking to stay on the Upper East Side then you can see a beautiful view of the Upper West Side (this is what I did). You can also go over to the west side to see a view of the east side. This is great if you are looking to do something free.
4. The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Met is located in Central Park on 5th Ave and 82nd. If you are a Gossip Girl lover like me then you will want to go sit on the steps of The Met. One of the great aspects of The Met is that you pay what you wish, then you can visit all exhibits inside. They have suggested prices on the website. If you buy your tickets online then you must pay their price. Another thing you can do at The Met is go to the rooftop and see a different view of the city!
5. Side Streets
Every night I went out I found myself on pretty side streets taking pictures. Definitely wear walking shoes if you want to explore the Upper East Side! When walking down these streets I saw lots of colorful doors and cats sitting in windows! I always found the most unexpected things when out. One location I found that I was not looking for was the building used as the St. Jude’s Courtyard in Gossip Girl! This is located on Park Ave and 93rd.
I hope you enjoyed my Upper East Side recommendations. I will have more NYC post coming in the next couple of weeks!
